So... you've got to work from home?

HMG have introduced the next phase of their Coronavirus plan and a lot of people will be working from home for the first time.

Here are some tips to help it go smoothly, in no particular order.

You are AT WORK. Act as if you’re in the office. Get dressed for work. Don’t work in pyjamas etc. You need to get your brain in the right state of mind to work.

Take regular breaks. If you have a smart watch, take not of when it tells you to stand or take a break

Take a set lunch break. Don’t snack at your desk/sofa/bedroom etc. Move away from this area to eat - take a lunch hour.

Don't work in a room with a TV. Day time TV is the devil.

Get some flowers, or plants where you're working. Not only do they look nice, they also help freshen the air.

Before starting work - ‘commute’ - walk out the door, round the block and back. Again, this will get your mind in the right mode for working.

Keep in regular contact with your colleagues. It can be very lonely at times.

Have set hours. Start and finish at the same time. Don’t think you have to stay longer. Enjoy the extra time you have because you didn’t have to commute.

At the end of the day do your ‘commute’ again. Get back, get changed in to your chill clothes and relax.

Enjoy it! Yes its an odd situation, but make the most of it. Get those jobs done that you’ve put on the back burner in the office.
